The village of Saint-Rémy Varenne is located in Anjou, at the edge of the Loire, between Angers and Saumur, in the Regional Natural reserve the Loire Anjou Touraine was registered on the "UNESCO world heritage".

The cottage "The Barre in Anjou" is located on plateau, in the place called " The Barre", 2 km in the South of the village and the edges of the Loire. The place is very quiet and is located in a protected environment and in the heart of the circuits of hikes (GR3).

Saint-Rémy Varenne possesses a varied and rich natural, cultural, historic heritage : Prieuré built in 12th century, the Dolmen of Bajoulière (on 2500 avt JC) classified historic monument, mills, manor houses, chapels, washhouses, menhirs...
 
There is a lot of places of bikes and you can walk.
In 500 m of the cottage is located the footpath GR3 (path of the Loire of Mountain Gerbier de Jonc in Baule, 1000 km). The GR3 is the oldest GR of France ( 1947 ). See in the page Activities, the information detailed on this GR and 4 other circuits.

For those with passion for plant, many meetings are offe red from May till October by the horticulturalists, the arboriculturists, the laboratories, Parks and Gardens... (In 2009, opening of Terra Botanica near Angers. 4 spaces will be proposed).
Numerous cultural activities are offered in the region: music, Musical Hours of Cunault, arts, craft fair, exhibitions (see page activities).
The importance of the vineyard of Anjou and the sweetness of its climate offer a big variety of wines to discover and taste (see page activities).

"Et puis... la lumière de l'Anjou.
Elle a été célébrée à la Cour par moult poètes. Elle caresse les pourpres safranées des coteaux du Layon.
En automne, elle rougit du coucher de soleil flamboyant d'un trop plein de sensualité.
Le matin, même pour ceux qui ne se lèvent pas tôt, elle créée une subtile aquarelle dans les camaïeux de rose.
Ici la lumière est une compagne gaie, chaleureuse." (Christine)
